Seekers, Apostles and Skeptics
Mark 3:7 - 34

Mercy for the Masses 3:7 – 10
· People followed Jesus at great inconvenience
· Jesus served them at great inconvenience
Appointing the Apostles 3:13 – 19
Ministry of Jesus’ apostles
· Be with Jesus
· Preach and cast out demons

Marks of New Testament apostles
· Experienced Jesus ministry first hand
· Supernaturally equipped by the Spirit
· Authoritative teachers of the church
· Missionaries and church planters
· Suffered greatly for Christ
· Relational ministry
Scolding the Skeptics 3:11-12, 15, 20 - 34
· His family thought Jesus was deranged
· Legal specialists insisted Jesus was demonized

But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. Luke 11:20

Both miss the kingdom of God!
You will know a person is demon possessed…
· Not by the strength of temptation or depth of sin
· Not by their state of mind or physical problems
· But by what happens when they encounter Jesus

You will know you blasphemed the Holy Spirit …

· Not by words you spoke in anger
· Not by errant doctrinal positions
· But by your defiant hostility to God’s call

The Word and the Kingdom:
A Strategy for Advancement

· Jesus came to proclaim the Kingdom of God.
· People struggle with Jesus’ teaching, because they expect and desire something other than what he says.
· God chose the foolish and weak things of the world to shame the wise and the strong.
· We do not bring this kingdom: The Kingdom Comes.
· The Kingdom comes through us: we call this evangelism.
· The Kingdom doesn’t come through us: The Kingdom comes through the Word of God.
