More Than Conquerors:No Domination

Romans 8:5 - 17

Our righteousness is both

1. Imputed
2. Displayed

Are you controlled by your sinful nature?

1. Flesh oriented thought life v. 5
2. Absence of life and peace v. 6
3. Hostile to God vs. 7 - 8
4. Christless v. 9
Romans 7:15 - 23

Victory over our sinful nature is not by …

1. Exorcism
2. “Sanctification”
3. Will power
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Galatians 5:16

I am going to change
I have a new nature

1. A new affection

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2

2. A new attitude

David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45

I have a new manager

1. Life through Jesus

But if Christ is in you … your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

More Than Conquerors: No Desperation

Romans 8:18 - 28

We suffer because …

1. Satan is loose
2. Evil is in the heart of men

For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts …
Mark 7:21

3. Calamities of life
4. Persecution

In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 2 Timothy 3:12

5. Violation of laws

God is not the source of suffering

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

We can react to suffering with …

1. Fantasy – it will not happen to me
2. Fatalism – nothing good will happen to me

"You have said, 'It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his requirements …? Malachi 3:14

3. Faith

Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him .. Job 13:15

" In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." Daniel 3:17-18

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Matthew 26:39

This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. … The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. … The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; Psalms 34:1, 7, 10, 15

2 Peter 3:13

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." Revelation 21:1-5

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Philippians 3:20-21

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one.
John 10:27-30

Nothing can pry us from God’s grip
God is for us
God is not going to change
I am elected
I am loved
