The Holy Spirit-Our Power for Discipleship


Discipleship is the process of becoming a committed follower of Christ.
It is accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Conviction of the Holy Spirit

· Convincing the lost

Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. John 16:7 – 11


· Compelling the found


Transformed by the Holy Spirit

He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior Titus 3:5 – 6


· From a guilty to a clear conscience

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:14

· From brokenness to wholeness

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. II Corinthians 5:17 Contemporary English Version

· From destructiveness to fruitfulness
Teaching of the Holy Spirit

· Remind us of revealed truth

I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth … But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you John 14:16, 17, 26

· Guide us to new truth

I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth …the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. John 16:12, 13, 15

· Inspire us with spontaneous truth


“ When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Luke 12:11 - 12

Discipleship Evaluation

I am presently meeting together with other believers in some type of small group

During the past four months I have grown in the grace and knowledge of God

The last two weeks I have had a consistent devotion life

The Holy Spirit is dealing with me and I am presently working on putting off a specific negative behavior or attitude and putting on a specific godly behavior

I am developing a relationship with unchurched people

Getting Full of Father The Holy Spirit: Our Power for Fellowship

Those who are led by God's Spirit are God's sons. For the Spirit that God has given you … makes you God's children, and by the Spirit's power we cry out to God, "Father! my Father!" God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children. Romans 8:14-16 Good News Version

The Holy Spirit helps us fit in Ephesians 1:13-14

· Branded by the Spirit

God put his special mark of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that he had promised. v. 13 New Century Version


We have God’s heritage!


· Guaranteed by the Spirit

That Holy Spirit is the guarantee that we will receive what God promised for his people v. 14 NCV


We have God’s inheritance!


we … who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, … wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8:23 New International Version


The Holy Spirit helps us feel God

I remember you in my prayers and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him. Ephesians 1:16-17 Today’s English Version


· We experience His love!

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. The Holy Spirit: Our Power for Worship

Biblical worship


· Focus on the greatness of God
· Be careful about committing to worship forms

“ If you will not,” said Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.” II Kings 5:17

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24


· Worship with our whole being

Oh do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you are from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
I Corinthians 6:19-20 New King James Version


· Receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit

Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ John 1:32-34


· Respond in worship to the revelation of the Lord

On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet Revelation 1:10

At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. Revelation 4:1

· Have a godly manner

Humble

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. I Corinthians 12:11

Respectful

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable I Corinthians 12:21-22

· Participate in spiritual gifts to strengthen the church

What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. I Corinthians 14:26


· Be thoughtful and orderly

So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? I Corinthians 14:23

But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.
